Chippa United narrowly edge Kaizer Chiefs

Reading Time: 2 minutes

A solitary goal from Abel Mabaso helped Chippa United exact revenge on Kaizer Chiefs in their league encounter in Port Elizabeth.

The Amakhosi denied Tebogo Moloi’s charges a Telkom Knockout semi-final spot in November and on Wednesday night they beat the visitors 1-0.

The hosts had the upper hand from the first whistle and duly took the lead with a goal in the fifth minute through Mabaso.

The encounter was evenly balanced after that with the Soweto giants showing a sense of urgency, but they could not penetrate the Chilli Boys defence.

The hosts kept Chiefs under pressure, but keeper Itumeleng Khune was up to the task.

United held on to their slender lead as the defeat leaves Chiefs sitting at No 7 on the log table, the result ended their four-match unbeaten run.

Meanwhile, Free State Stars defeated Golden Arrows 2-1 at the Goble Park Stadium in Bethlehem.

Ea Lla Koto’s goals were netted by Goodman Dlamini and Sinethemba Jantjie, while Abafana Bes’thende’s reply was scored by Siphelele Magubane.

The result sees the Free State side earning spot in the eight place on the log.

Chippa United have now conjured 19 points from 13 outings, with victory moving the Chilli Boys up to second spot on the log standings.
