Chippa United Football Club has urged fans attending their match against Orlando Pirates at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Sunday to bring canned food for its poverty alleviation programme.

The club has forged a partnership with Meals on Wheels Charity Organisation as part of its poverty alleviation strategy.

The programme starts at the Greenacres Mall in Port Elizabeth on Thursday.

Meals on Wheels’ Bennett Kobe, says they have been touched by the plight of millions who still go to bed on empty stomachs.  He’s appealed to the football fraternity to support the initiative.

“It’s not about the quantity- how many people how many people have bought in. Even if we get five hundred tins even two hundred for that matter, they make a huge difference for us on Meals on Wheels because from that two hundred or five hundred, just trust many people will go to bed have eaten something.”
