Banyana Banyana went down 2-1 against Chile in an international friendly, played at the Estadio Sausalito in Vina, Chile on Saturday.  This was a historic meeting between South Africa and Chile, with Banyana Banyana being the first ever-African team to face the South Americans in their own backyard.

Chile took the lead in the 36th minute, after Banyana Banyana failed to defend from a corner. The South Africans had to play with ten players from the 38th minute, after striker Jermaine Seoposenwe was red carded for a late tackle.

Despite being down to ten players, South Africa got the much-needed equaliser through Refiloe Jane. However,  the joy was short lived when Chile scored the winner from the penalty spot. The two teams will meet again in the second friendly in Santiago on Wednesday.
