Chiefs stuck on 7th spot after yet another draw

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Kaizer Chiefs poor run in the Absa Premiership continued unabated last night when they were held to a one-all draw by Golden Arrows at the FNB stadium in Johannesburg.

Chiefs missed numerous goal scoring chances in the first half before Nduduzo Sibiya scored against the run of play in the 33rd minute.

The hosts continued to weather the storm in the second half in search of an equaliser and hit woodwork on three occasions.

The equaliser only came in 77th minute off Kgotso Moleko’s powerful header.

Chiefs, who are through to the Nedbank Cup final, haven’t won a league game since the ninth of last month. Chiefs head coach was obviously disappointed with the result.

Arrows will count themselves lucky to have escaped with a point from this game as they were on the ropes for the better part of the game.

Understandably, Arrows head coach Steve Komphela who was making his second return to FNB stadium this season, admits that they are happy with the point.

Last night’s game also marked the return of Amakhosi exciting winger Joseph “Tight” Malongoane who had been out on a long term injury lay-off from August last year.

He came on as a substitute in the second-half. With the club now stuck in the seventh spot with only three games to go in this campaign, Middendorp says they can’t wait for the return of another attacker in Lebogang Manyama.

Two Arrows players, Siboniso Conco and Devine Lunga were booked in last night’s game and will miss this coming weekend’s crunch encounter at home against Free State Stars due to suspension.

Komphela says at this stage of the season, these things are normal but it’s how they will respond what will count.

With three games to go, Arrows are currently ninth on the log with 33 points, just two points outside the top eight spot. – Reporting by Velile Mnyandu
