Chiefs on the verge of bringing down an anchorman in quest for PSL title

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The conclusion of Kenyan international Anthony Akumu’s deal with Kaizer Chiefs is imminent.

That’s what SABC Sport learnt from the interview with Chiefs supremo Kaizer Motaung during the club’s 50th birthday celebrations in Soweto on Tuesday.

As the Absa Premiership log leaders prepare for a grueling second-round programme, Motaung Senior says it is important that they strengthen the squad.

It’s believed that the deal is almost done and it’s just a matter of time before the former the Zesco United anchorman is unveiled.

Chiefs haven’t won some silverware in five years now and it would be fitting if they were to achieve that in the same year they are celebrating their 50th birthday.

Wednesday night they host Highlands Park in front of what’s expected to be a fully packed FNB Stadium.

Motaung has more on what will it take to lift the league title.

Head coach Ernst Middendorp last won some silverware in the PSL during his first stint with Chiefs between 2005 and 2007, he has never won a trophy since then.

Middendorp says it would be great to lead the South Africa giants to a title and return them to the CAF Champions League.

Highlands Park have picked up their confidence in the last two matches with some good wins against Golden Arrows and Black Leopards. They had gone five matches without a win before these two games.

They can frustrate big opponents away from home and Middendorp is aware that he will have to apply different tactics socially with Samir Nurkovic suspended for this game.
