Chief Dirahadibonwe Sekonyela dies

The Free State House of Traditional Leaders Deputy Chairperson, Chief Dirahadibonwe ”Ramashweleshwele” Sekonyela has died.

He died in Manapo hospital in Qwaqwa on Thursday morning after a short illness.

The Free State Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs Department has described Chief Sekonyela as a selfless individual who was committed to working for the community.

The head of the department Mokete Duma says his death is a great loss to the department and the house of traditional leaders.

“He has actually contributed immensely to issues affecting the traditional communities. I recall that he was very instrumental in ensuring that the Free State House Traditional Leadership Act is actually and he also contributed immensely in ensuring that all the local houses that are established are established. Currently, as he passes on we were busy with new legislation that deals with the recognition of the Khoi and the San.”
