Nine-year-old Sadia Sukhraj who was fatally shot when her father’s car was hijacked in Chatsworth south of Durban on Monday morning will be buried in the area on Tuesday.

The incident caused anger among the residents who converged on Monday night for a night vigil and protest against crime.

Police used rubber bullets to disperse angry protesting residents who gathered at the local police station demanding protection from criminals.

Local Pastor Cyril Pillay called for calm as scores of mourners are expected to attend the funeral service.

He’s urged the community to work with the police to rid the area of crime and not to take law into their own hands.

Meanwhile, one of the three men arrested for the hijacking incident is expected to appear at the local magistrate’s court soon.

One suspect was killed when the community took the law into their own hands, and a third suspect is still at large.
