Police have fired rubber bullets to disperse a group of protesters who surrounded the local police station and started throwing rocks and breaking windows in Kagiso in Mogale City.

The residents have been marching through the area voicing their discontent about drug dens in the area.

Police say the residents didn’t follow procedure and apply for permission for the march.

Kagiso Police spokesperson Solomon Sibiya says about 1 000 people surrounded the premises.

“The situation nearly got out of control as the crowd attacked the police station. They threw stones some of the windows have been shattered. The station commander is outside right now trying to talk to them so that we can reach an amicable solution.”
