Cele returns to notorious Ngcobo Police station

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Minister of Police Bheki Cele returned to Ngcobo on Saturday to assess progress made on improving the police station in the Eastern Cape Town.

The station was the scene of a brazen attack by a gang, that claimed five lives earlier in 2018.

Security is being beefed-up at the police station, including the installation of a CCTV system.

The attack on the police station and the subsequent shootout at the Seven Angels Ministry Church a few days later sent shockwaves throughout the country.

Six people, including three of the Mancoba brothers who ran the church, are facing murder charges.

Preventative measures are now being implemented.

“We are also thinking of improving the response of police. For instance, we have agreed that we will be bringing the TRT, the Beret, that need to be trained for this cluster – so that we are able to respond quickly and respond decisively as the police when we are put under attack. So, we will continue to do the things that we said we are going to do,” said Cele.

Cele also met with the mother of the so-called angels.

“The funny things that you hear; they are really different from things that you see… It was quite interesting to meet the mother of the house, and the youngest son. One thing that we did not know is that there are three daughters, and seven angels. When I asked the question, ‘Why not 10?’ I was told that daughters are flowers of heaven, not angels, but I find the mother very interesting… as I have said… She is just ordinary human being, ordinary mother.”

The community is adamant that the church be demolished. They and other stakeholders have also pledged their support to the police to rid Ngcobo off violent crime.
