Police Minister Bheki Cele says they are going to take serious action against members of the police service who used racist language when dealing with public violence and malicious damage to property.

Cele was responding to an outcry by residents of Danville in Mahikeng, who claimed they were called by racist names by some police officers.

There are allegations that they even used live ammunition during the recent violent protests at Danville.

Cele elaborates, “What really upset me here is racist approach and racist comments that our police have made, if that’s true. There can be no survival of the officer that abuses the community using racist comments and even shooting. The Provincial Commissioner is here, they have to go and investigate. If we find that our people have broken the law there has to be consequences.”
