Cash-in-transit guards to march for improved safety

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Thousands of security officers in the cash-in-transit industry are on Tuesday marching in major cities across the country.

The march follows the increase in the spate of cash-in-transit heists especially in Gauteng‚ Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal.

With Cash-in-transit heists seeing a massive spike in recent months, security officers in the industry have decided to take to the streets to voice their concerns. In Johannesburg, more than a thousand workers are expected to march to the offices of the Gauteng MEC for Security and Safety.

Traffic has already been affected on the N1 south in Centurion area this morning as guards in armoured vehicles make their way to Johannesburg. The guards are slowing down traffic on the freeway driving at a very slow speed leading to massive traffic jams.

Other marches will take place in Cape Town, Bloemfontein, Durban and Nelspruit. The guards are demanding that they be given more powerful weapons to defend themselves, as well as safer vehicles.
