Reading Time: < 1 minute

Gail force winds are lashing the Cape of Storms since early on Sunday morning as a predicted intense cold front moves in over the Western Cape and parts of the Northern Cape on Sunday.

The weather office at the Cape Town airport has issued warnings of heavy rain during the day and and this evening, as well as flooding in low-lying areas.

Forecaster at the Cape Town office, Mmathapelo Makgabutlane says temperatures will drop further and there’s also a possibility of snow on the Cape Mountains.

“On Sunday, we’ve got a strong cold frontal system that will be making landfall; the cold front will be bringing quite high rainfall amounts. At this stage there is a possibility of some flooding, some possible heavy rainy conditions and even a possibility of some snow falls,” adds Makgabutlane.
