City of Cape Town Disaster Management authorities have warned residents to take precautionary measures to shield themselves from the approaching storm which is expected to hit the Peninsula on Friday evening.

The South African Weather Service issued a warning regarding gale force northwesterly winds which are expected to be gushing at between 65 and 80 kilometres per hour including localised flooding in low-lying areas.

City Disaster Management Spokesperson, Charlotte Powell says residents can contact the emergency centre for any assistance.

“City departments are on standby to deal with the consequences following this weather warning. The residents are requested to contact the City Communications Emergency Centre. The City further requests that residents please survey their properties and ensure that all gutters and storm-water channels are clear and to dig trenches around their properties if their circumstances.”
