The 19th annual Cape Town International Jazz Festival got underway in the Mother City on Friday night.

Organizers say this year’s installment showcases a diversity in cultures and musical styles.

Local act and Idols SA finalist, Amanda Black, opened the festival on the Kippies Stage. The award winning singer, song-writer and self-taught guitarist hails from the Eastern Cape.

With over 40 local and international acts on the lineup, the event draws thousands of jazz lovers to the Mother City each year. Revellers say the jazz festival is a highlight on their social calendar.

“I’m an ex jazz singer so I love supporting jazz music and I love supporting our local music and events like this. I’m so excited about being in Cape Town, the Mother City.”
