Cape Chamber of Commerce skeptical about future energy plans

The Cape Chamber of Commerce and Industry says government’s Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) will not encourage investment or economic growth.

Chamber President, Geoff Jacobs, says it fails to provide future energy security.

He says it, however, acknowledges a need for distributed power generation.

Jacobs says the plan places limits on renewable energy and favours more expensive new coal electricity plants.

He says the IRP does not provide for more gas electricity stations that were the ideal support for variable renewable energy.
