Can City spoil Pirates’ party and keep hopes alive?

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Cape Town City FC host league leaders Orlando Pirates on Saturday afternoon in the penultimate round of the Absa Premiership, hoping to keep their mathematical hopes of winning the title alive, and also spoil Pirates’ more likely chances.

City are six points behind Pirates and second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns, and would only stand a chance of winning the league if Pirates, Sundowns and Bidvest Wits fail to win their final games.

City Coach Benni McCarthy knows their hopes are slim, and says they slipped up in other games.

McCarthy, who thinks it is great to see his former club doing well again, says Pirates must not expect any favours from his team on Saturday.

The former Bafana Bafana striker also credits the Pirates’ players for the club’s resurgence.

McCarthy says he expects a full house at the game, and says the fans deserve good football and good officiating.

McCarthy will miss Kermit Erasmus and Ebrahim Seedat through suspension, while Kwanda Mngonyama is injured. – Report by Rob Delport
