Calm returns to eShowe after violent protests

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The situation is reported to be calm in eShowe on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast after residents burnt down a farm house and three sugarcane farms.

This comes after a security guard working the farm allegedly shot and killed a 30-year-old-man on Wednesday.

Sphamandla Xulu was with his friends on their way to fish when the guard shot him.

Locals then went on the rampage and burnt the farms and the house, in an apparent act of revenge.

They also confiscated a truck from a motorist and used it to block the busy R66.
