Buthelezi says he will retire a happy man

Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) leader iNkosi Mangosuthu Buthelezi says he will retire a happy man as the party is in an upward trajectory. On Wednesday his party won yet another by-election in Abaqulusi municipality in northern KwaZulu-Natal.

Last month the party scored another victory when it won a by-election at uMlalazi municipality. The ward was previously under the ANC.

“As someone who has indicated that not very long from now I will soon be handing over my baton to another leader, so I think it is very encouraging not for me to be seen to be running away from something that is dying but. Actually on something that is growing, that is getting stronger. I would really love to leave the party, really on the trajectory.”

However Buthelezi says the IFP like other parties has its own fair share of problems. He’s citing manipulation of party internal processes as some of the reasons party conferences had to be postponed.

“We have seen that in the ANC too;  even now there some many branches, I think our position is much worse than that to the extent that on Monday the whole NEC is going to Escort because relaying information to us about branches has proven in many cases actually not being reliable information. People are setting bogus branches, if you look in Facebook, there are a lot of activities going on, and for instance Escort is one example of that where numbers are not actually numbers that are accepted for branch. In many cases people have got the same ID’s.”
