Bushiri’s co-accused bail hearing resumes on Wednesday

Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) church leader and self-proclaimed prophet Shepherd Bushiri’s co-accused
Willah Mudolo will be back in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday for a bail hearing.

Mudolo and his wife Zethu are charged with fraud and money laundering related to an investment scheme valued at R102 million.

Zethu Mudolo was granted bail along with Bushiri and his wife Mary last month.

The alleged offenses took place between 2017 and 2019.

The accused, persuaded members of the church to invest in the Shepherd Bushiri Investments and Rising Estates after being promised that it would yield 50% in returns within three months.

The companies were also not registered in terms of the Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services Act.

Meanwhile, earlier in Malawi, the court ordered the release of fugitive Pastor Shepherd Bushiri and his wife Mary.

The magistrate ruled that the Bushiris were illegally arrested in South Africa.

The leaders of the Enlighted Christian Gathering are accused of fraud and money laundering.

They were released on bail of R200 000 each earlier this month.
