Bulls ready for Currie Cup semi final

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Despite rain being predicted, Saturday’s Currie Cup semi-final between Western Province and the Blue Bulls at Newlands should last the full 80 minutes.  The two teams clashed at a wet Loftus Versfeld last weekend with Province completing a bonus point win in 40 minutes before the match was called off.

That underlined their dominance in this season’s Currie Cup and although they are overwhelming favourites, they are but are determined to stay grounded and not be complacent.

Coach John Dobson has made a number of changes to his squad for the semi-final. Strengthening his team for a second consecutive match against Bulls.

Fullback Dillon Leyds and number eight, Jarno Augustus return from injury while centre Dan Kriel and hooker Bongi Mbonambi come back after being rested last week.  20 year-old Damian Willemse switches to flyhalf with the impressive Josh Stander on the bench.

Province finished the league phase unbeaten with six bonus point victories.

They also scored 276 points including 38 tries with their defence conceding the least number of points.

But it’s the camaraderie and team spirit that pleases the captain, Chris van Zyl, the most.

Their Coach says he’s well prepared for the Blue Bulls and knows what to expect.

The Bulls last won at Newlands in 2009.
