Reading Time: 2 minutes

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari is recuperating fast from illness, and will return home shortly, his Deputy Yemi Osinbajo said on Wednesday.

Osinbanjo met President Muhammadu Buhari who has spent the last two months on medical leave in London.

Osinbajo flew to Britain on Tuesday on a brief unexplained visit. He is reported to have spent an hour at Abuja House, the Nigerian High Commission in London before leaving in a diplomatic car without making any comment.

Arriving at the Federal Executive Council meeting in Abuja, the Nigerian Vice President said Buhari was recovering and in is good spirits.

“He is in very high spirits, he is recuperating very quickly and we had a very long conversation. We spoke for well over an hour, and his humour is all there.”

Osinbajo says he discussed a wide range of issues with Buhari but declined to give details.

Buhari left Abuja on May 7 and handed over power to his deputy, to allay concerns of a void at the top of Africa’s biggest economy.

Meanwhile, residents in Nigeria are frustrated over President Buhari’s continued stay in Britain for what his office has described as medical tests.

Officials have not disclosed details of Buhari’s illness, which has caused fierce speculation in the Nigerian media and on social media. Its unclear whether he’ll seek a second term in the 2019 election.
