The Buffalo City Metro in the Eastern Cape has donated vacant land for the Breidbach housing project.
This comes after the council recently approved the donation of a total of 163 sites to the Human Settlement Department following a number of violent protests that erupted in Breidbach in 2017.
More than 2 000 RDP houses are expected to be built.
Buffalo City Metro Mayor, Xola Pakathi says, “In fact, we are donating the land to the Department of Human Settlement in the province which has the mandate of building houses for communities. We are doing that in consultation with the people of Breidbach. We are targeting first quarter of 2018 as the beginning of the process of the rolling out of the low cost houses in Breidbach.”
