Boys who gang raped a boy learner sent to juvenile correctional centre

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Five boys, who allegedly ganged raped a 14-year-old learner, have been sent to a juvenile correctional centre.

The boys who apparently operate as a gang at a primary school in Thaba Nchu were still on suspension when the incident took place. A case of rape has been opened

It’s alleged that five under age boys summoned the boy to the school toilets where they allegedly assaulted and raped him.

On Friday parents met to address bullying and the current alleged rape at the school.

They’re hoping for a positive outcome.

“I think the meeting is important because these things happen and when they are addressed it’s better,” says a parent.

“More workshops should be conducted so that we as parents we know how to deal with these things,” says another parent.

“Parents should also learn to discipline their kids,” adds another parent.

Police are still investigating the matter.

Police spokesperson Martin Xuma says: “They are still in custody. The 13-year-old is in Qwaqwa and the 14-year-olds are in Kroonstad juvenile centre. They will appear in court on June 25 for bail application.”

The department of education says it will investigate if other learners at the school have been victims of harassment or abuse.
