Bosch returns to bolster Sharks ahead of semis

The Sharks will be looking to make it four wins in a row when they face the Free State XV in a Currie Cup semi-final in Bloemfontein on Saturday.

The Durbanites, who are the form team in the competition, are aiming to defend the title they won 12 months ago and on Thursday coach Sean Everitt made one change to his starting XV for the game.

Curwin Bosch, who missed last Saturday’s victory over the Blue Bulls due to a minor injury, returns to the starting line-up.

Bosch brings plenty of experience to his team but coach Everitt felt for the youngster, Boeta Chamberlain, who deputised during his absence.

Everitt joined the team following the departure of former coach Rob du Preez. When he came into the side ahead of the start of the Currie Cup, he said his desire was to grow the union’s player pool and progress to the business end of the tournament.

Seven weeks later, Everitt sits on the cusp of leading the Durban side to the final. Everitt says he is proud of what he has achieved with a young group of players.

The Free State Fifteen were the standout team in the round-robin phase, topping the log to earn themselves a home semi-final.

Although they won four out of six games, like every other team which made the play-offs, it was their superior points difference which propelled them to the summit.

Sharks co-captain, Jeremy Ward says they have been rewarded with hosting the match because of their positive approach to the game. – Report by Thahir Asmal
