Bonginkosi Madikizela meets protesting Isiqalo residents

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Western Cape Human Settlements Minister Bonginkosi Madikizela says government has begun a process to profile the people of Isiqalo Informal Settlement outside Cape Town.

He says some of them might have previously benefitted from government’s housing programme. The area has been the scene of violent service delivery protests for the past week.

Madikizela is meeting residents of Isiqalo and Mitchells plain. He says government will not buy the piece of land on which Isiqalo is located because it is not suitable for human habitation and is also very expensive.

Residents say they want services such as proper housing, water and electricity.

Mitchells Plain residents are angry that people from the informal settlement are constantly protesting and blocking roads.
