Bonang’s tax evasion charges dropped

The case against TV personality Bonang Matheba relating to her tax affairs has been struck off the roll in the Johannesburg Commercial Crimes Court.

This comes after Matheba paid an admission of guilt fine of R30 000. The TV personality made a brief appearance in court today.

She had been charged for not filing her personal tax returns from 2008 to 2017 and her company tax from 2014 to 2017.

Bonang Matheba emerged from court with a broad smile after her matter was struck off the roll.

Matheba has reached a settlement with SARS, resulting in the court dropping the criminal case. She admitted to being guilty of not filing her tax returns.

She paid fines of R22 000 for her personal tax for an 11-year tax period and R8 000 for company tax covering four years.

In a brief comment as she left the court, she expressed delight that she no longer faces criminal charges and says she’ll now focus on positive things.
