Multiple Olympic champion, Usain Bolt, who has retired from athletics in 2017, has encouraged government to invest in athletics.

The Jamaican attended the Puma School of Speed event held in Roodepoort on Monday, in his capacity as President of the School of Speed, and said the future of South African athletics is bright.

Although he wants to venture into football, he says athletics will always be his first love.

Bolt says investment in the sport goes a long way in unearthing and uplifting young talent.

“If track and field is doing great for your country and uplifting your country then it’s good to invest on it.”

The former sprinter took to the racing track to greet young fans.

He gave away some signed caps before showing off his trademark ‘lightning bolt’ pose.
