Boks leave for New Zealand beaming with confidence after Australia victory

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Springboks Prop forward Lizo Gqoboka believes that their opening Rugby Championships victory over Australia was the cherry on top having come off the bench to make his debut at the Emirates Airline Park this past weekend.

Gqoboka flew out on Monday to join the rest of the Boks contingent in New Zealand ahead of their second clash of the competition against the All Black in Wellington this coming Saturday.

The Ntabankulu-born front rower, Gqoboka, who’s had to wait for his opportunity for over two years says it was well worth the wait.

The 29-year-old Gqoboka thanked his family and the team for their support during the difficult times where he missed out of selection. He adds that he knows this was only the beginning.

Springboks scrumhalf Cobus Reinach, who last played for the Springboks four years ago, believes that he has grown his game over the last couple of years of playing his trade in the Guianese Pro14 in England.

The former Sharks man, Reinach, will be looking to cement his place in coach Rassie Erasmus’ team for the upcoming World Cup in Japan having narrowly missed out of the final selection four years ago.

Reinach says he is looking to make amends for missing out in 2015.

Having come on in the second half for man of the moment Herschel Jantjies in their victory last Saturday, Reinach praised the debutant after scoring two scorching tries in the game. – Report by Thando Gqamane
