South Africa will on Thursday bid farewell to ANC Veteran Ambassador Billy Modise. He will be laid to rest at the West Park Cemetery in Johannesburg.

He died after a long illness at the Unitas Hospital in Pretoria last week.

Born in Bloemfontein in 1930, Ambassador Billy Modise spent 30 years in exile fighting for the liberation of his people.

He joined the diplomatic world as the country’s high commissioner to Canada in 1995 and ended his career as the chief of state protocol in the Presidency in 2006.

Amongst the many accolades he received for his sterling work was the Order of Luthuli in Silver from former President Thabo Mbeki.

President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to deliver the eulogy at his Special Official funeral service.
