The City of Cape Town is set to table its nearly R50 billion budget for the 2018/19 financial year.

Mayoral Committee Member for Finance Johan van der Merwe says about R3 billion of the budget has been set aside as a social package, which includes relief for the indigent.

Van der Merwe is urging potentially indigent beneficiaries to apply for assistance.

He says, “Indigent grants and beneficiaries can really make a big difference to the living conditions of an individual and their households. Indigent support packages can empower our more vulnerable residents. If it is an opportunity for which you qualify, do not miss out.”

A huge chunk of the Western Cape Agriculture Department’s 2018 budget will also go towards reducing the effects of the drought and fighting diseases in the industry.
