Parliament’s Constitutional Review Committee that has been hosting public hearings on possible review of Section 25 of the Constitution in various parts of Limpopo this week expects the biggest participant turn-out at the last hearing in Thohoyandou on Saturday.

Committee co-chairperson Vincent Smith says they scheduled their Limpopo visit in a way that allowed for at least one day that is not a working day to ensure maximum participation.

The Committee has been mandated to give South Africans an opportunity to express their views on whether the section should be amended to allow for land expropriation without compensation.

Smith says they expect the largest amount of participants at Saturday’s hearing…

“We are hoping that those who are working will be able to be entertained, although we know the distances are far, but that is the best we could have done in terms of taking consideration those that are working,” he says.

The Vhembe area is home to various fruit farms that export their produce.

The area also has several commercial poultry and livestock farms.
