Bidvest Wits settled for a bronze medal after they beat Spartak Moscow five three, following a penalty shootout in the Under 17 Future Champions semi-finals.

Belgian Club Brugge were crowned the 2018 Future Champions after they thumped Netherlands team, Ado Den Haag with a four nil scoreline at the Nike Stadium, in Pimville, Soweto.

Since the Future Champions tournament was launched in 2009, no South African club has won the title.

It’s a great concern, especially for the development of the country.

Bidvest Wits, who topped group D in the 2018 tournament, finished second, fourth and third consecutively since 2016.

They beat FC Spartak Moscow 5-3 on penalties after they drew two all at full time.

In the final stage, Club Brugge, started slowly in the tournament but fought gallantly to reach the final.

They were up against Ado Den Haag, a team that worked as a unit and had a solid developmental foundation.

However, they were no match for the skill full Belgian side, which produced a top drawer performance.

Their players have individual skill, but also use combinations to confuse their opponents.

The team also have a reach developmental plan, as some of their players are only fifteen years old.
