Baroka Football Club parades Telkom Knockout trophy

Supporters of Baroka FC, have had an opportunity to interact with their heroes at Ga-Mphahlele, outside Lebowakgomo in Limpopo.

The team paraded in a motorcade through the streets of Lebowakgomo before moving to a local sports ground to interact with fans.

The 2018 Telkom Knockout Cup victors also visited the local chief’s kraal. Baroka FC owner, Khurishi Mphahlele says they are grateful for the support.

Baroka FC emerged victors of the 2018 Telkom Knockout Challenge, when they defeated Orlando Pirates, a forthnight ago. The fanfare at Seleteng, Ga Mphahlele, was a joyous and colourful occasion. Fans were happy to pose with the silver trophy recently won by the team.

Mphahlele says winning one of the domestic competitions, is a victory for all the supporters.

“It looks like everybody was rooting for Baroka to win this trophy and for the first time which is coming to our province so we got a lot of support, people are encouraging us to do even more and we are ready to make sure that we please our people by winning some more trophies in the future.”

Baroka defeated Orlando Pirates 3-2 in a penalty shootout, after the sides’ two-all draw. And Mphahlele insists that they could not have done without the support of the community.

“It is an honour to us as Baroka Football Club and we are humbled by the support we are getting from our family, our community, our people in the province, and our government; the way they are supporting we feel it is proper to bring it here home to come and showcase trophy with them so that we can enjoy it together.”

Limpopo Sport MEC, Thandi Moraka, was amongst those who welcomed the team at their village. Moraka says football helps promote social cohesion.

“The victory of Baroka is a victory for all of us, secondly to say remember as the provincial government in particular the department of sports, arts and culture we are given a mandate to make sure that we drive issues of social cohesion within our communities and sport in particular football is one of the strategic objectives we are implementing.”

Chairman Khurishi Mphahlele adds that they plan to parade the trophy in other parts of the province.
