Banyana Banyana played to a 2-2 draw with Finland in their opening match of the Cyprus Women’s Cup played on Wednesday afternoon.

The Europeans opened the scoring in the second half just minutes from the half-time break after a goalless first-half. Leandre Smeda equalised for the South Africans in the 70th minute scoring from the penalty spot.

Finland kept on knocking at the door and were rewarded seven minutes later when Adelina Engman scored to restore their lead.

CAF’s women player of the year, Thembi Kgatlana, restored parity for the South Africans, her shot in the 83rd minute beating Finland’s keeper.
