Banyana in Ghana ahead of Africa Women’s Cup of Nations

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Banyana Banyana will on Saturday face Ghana in an international friendly match ahead of the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations 2018.

Ghana are the hosts of the tournament and the South Africans will use the match to acclimatise and measure their prospects in the competitions.

The top three teams automatically qualify for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in France 2019.

This game will be Desiree Ellis’ last chance to assess her player progress in a competitive match days before their opening fixture against defending champions Nigeria.

It’s also an opportunity to give the players a feel of the environment and what to expect during the tournament.

The match will take place at the Accra Sports Stadium, the venue for Banyana Banyana’s last group match against Zambia.

The last fixture between the two nations was in a 2016 Cup of Nations match in Cameroon where Ghana beat Banyana Banyana 1-0.

The core of the players in the current squad were part of that encounter and understand what to expect from their counter parts.

Banyana Banyana player Jermaine Seoposenwe says: ” It definitely just helps us in terms of understanding the physicality they bring.”

The match kicks off at 6PM the South African time.
