Banyana Banyana captain, Janine van Wyk, says her ultimate goal is to play in the World Cup.

The veteran defender celebrated her 150th match for the national team when she led the side to the COSAFA Women’s Cup semi- final.

Banyana reached the last four after trouncing Malawi by six goals to nil in Port Elizabeth on Monday.

They will now play Uganda in the semi-finals on Thursday.

Van Wyk, the most capped female footballer in Africa, says initially she never thought she would go so far.

“You never think what will happen along the way because football is really a short term career anything would have happened with injuries. It has been commitment and dedication and most of all my passion for the game that has got me thus far”.

Meanwhile, Coach Desiree Ellis has congratulated her captain on reaching the milestone.

“It takes a lot of character and determination will power and effort to get 150 caps never mind 100 caps or 50 caps. Janine has been a model of professionalism always leading from the front”.
