The mineral-rich Bakgatla -Ba-Kgafela community near Sun City has appealed to the North West government to fast- track the appointment of a chairperson for the Maluleke Commission.

Work on the commission has since been halted following the death of its former chairperson, retired Judge George Maluleke, earlier this year.

The commission was appointed to look into the tribe’s chieftaincy and financial affairs.

Provincial government spokesperson, Brian Setswambung, says plans are already on place to resume the commission soon.

“We would like to assure residents in that area that defiantly the commission will be resuming its work very soon in the sense that the provincial government has reconstituted the commission following the demise of the judge. Now the newly reconstituted commission has been gazetted. It will start to inform residents about the schedule of hearings that are to be conducted,” says Setswambung.
