The Durban Magistrate’s Court has postponed the bail application of seven men suspected of being involved in violence at the Glebelands Hostel at Umlazi south of the city.
Investigating officer Bhekumuzi Skhakhane is opposing their release on bail, saying it will be difficult to re-arrest them as they are facing serious charges.
Vukani Mcobothi, Khayelihle Mbuthuma, Wonderboy Hlope, Mahliphiza Mkhize, Matlale Mdweshu Ntshangase, Mondli Mthetwa and Sergeant Bhekukwazi Mdweshu from the Durban Central Police Station are facing multiple charges including murder, attempted murder and possession of illegal firearms and ammunition.
Mondli Mthethwa has abandoned his bid for bail. The accused are maintaining their innocence.
