As the ‘silly season’ approaches, a new dance craze has taken over the nation, however authorities have warned against the safety of the so-called Idibala Dance Challenge

The craze was inspired by Limpopo-born musician King Monada’s hit song Malwedhe, which means “illness” in the Bolobedu dialect of the Sepedi language.

The dance sees fans falling to the ground at the chorus and words: ke na le bolwedhe bao idibala (I have an illness of fainting). Videos have gone viral on social media of people listening to the song and fainting during the chorus, including drivers, paramedics and school kids.

Authorities have warned that taking up the challenge during driving could  lead to road crashes and is not safe. They have cautioned the public to “dance” responsibly.
