Australia advances to T20 semi’s

Australia are through to the Women’s World T20 cricket semi finals in the Caribbean. They beat their arch rivals, New Zealand, by 33 runs at Providence.

Australia posted 153 for the loss of seven wickets in their allotted 20 overs and dismissed the Kiwi’s for just 120.

The Aussies won the toss and elected to bat first. Openers Alyssa Healy and Beth Mooney did not disappoint. They contributed 71 runs for the first wicket before Mooney was dismissed for 26.

Player-of-the-match Healy stood strong as she eventually scored 53 runs off 38 deliveries, her innings included eight fours.

The rest of the Aussie batting line-up did not impress however Rachael Haynes was unbeaten on 29 runs.

New Zealand then went in to bat and had a disastrous start. They lost three wickets for just 13 runs until opener Suzie Bates and Katie Martin got stuck in.

Martin returned to the pavilion for 24 runs while Bates was eventually trapped leg before for 48.

From there the Kiwi’s never recovered. They were dismissed for 120 in the 18th over and lost the clash by 33 runs. The Aussies are now through to the last four.

New Zealand are banking on Ireland to beat India to keep their hopes alive
