Birdman wins best picture at Oscars
Hollywood was abuzz with the Oscars this week. Birdman scooped the best picture award and Lady Gaga stole the spotlight with her performance at the event. British actor Eddie Redmayne walked away with the best male actor award for his role in the “Theory of Everything” and Julianne Moore went home with the best actress award for her role for her role in “Still Alice”. However, the glitz and glamour of the night and the red carpet happenings, as always, has been an event in itself.

SA’s first dance movie in cinemas on Friday
The first South African Dance Feature Film “Hear me Move” will be in cinemas country wide on Friday. The movie tells a story about the son of a pantsula dancer, Muzi, who goes on a self-discovery journey. Muzi also investigates the truth behind his father’s death.

Dance Umbrella offers two weeks of art
Thursday marks the start of the 27th annual Dance Umbrella festival which will run until the 15th of March. Dance Umbrella offers two weeks of contemporary and performance art. It features 15 commissioned works of young and established choreographers from SA and abroad. One of the pieces to lookout for is Themba Mbuli’s “Ashed” looking at South Africa’s evolution. Choreographer Thabiso Pule will be looking at nature preservation in “What the Hell Happened to this Place”.

Arts enthusiasts spoilt for choice at Design Indaba
Arts enthusiasts will gather in Cape Town this weekend for the Design Indaba. The annual event showcases different art forms including design, film and music. It exhibits South Africa’s wares of all creative sectors. The event draws thousands of international and local art fanatics annually. It will run until the 1st of March.
