The spokesperson for the Pro-Makhado Task Team in Vuwani, Limpopo, will appear in a local court on Thursday. He was arrested on Tuesday night for allegedly breaking the Electoral Act.

The man is accused of intimidating Vuwani residents who planned to go voting. He allegedly encouraged community members to stay away from polling stations on Wednesday, violating the country’s electoral laws.

The Makhado task team had called for a vote boycott of the country’s sixth general elections.

It’s unhappy over government’s refusal to reincorporate Vuwani to the Makhado Local Municipality.

Chairperson of the group, Takalani Mukhudi, says it will intensify its shutdown. He says they’ll attend his court case and demand his release.

“We are going to maintain the shutdown our emotions , moral and everything is very low. They have arrested a person who is an icon of the struggle of the people of Vuwani. We will be actually busing the people to for bail application if there will be any.”
