Apartheid debt must be scrapped: PAC

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Pan African Congress in Parliament says apartheid debt that the current democratic government is still paying should be scrapped. Party leader Luthando Mbinda has raised concern that most of the revenue is used to service apartheid debt that the country owes.

Mbinda was participating in a debate on the Division of Revenue Bill in the National Assembly.

The Bill paves the way for the implementation of the national budget that former Finance Minister Malusi Gigaba recently delivered. “And the bigger portion of our revenue services the apartheid debts that the PAC rejected from the onset. This is a debt which we are not supposed to pay, as apartheid obviously was declared a crime against humanity by the United Nations. This country is not even paying the capital  amount borrowed, but we are still servicing the interest of this apartheid debts and we are told this debt that we are paying, it is for people who were also using chemicals to eliminate African people,” says Mbinda.
