Another MTN8 Semi ends in a draw

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Mamelodi Sundowns are in the driving seat in the MTN8 semi-final against neighbours SuperSport United. The Brazilians scored a valuable away goal with the first leg tie ending 1-1 in Atteridgeville this afternoon. The two teams still have the second leg in two weeks time to try and advance to the final of this season’s MTN8 final.

Thamsanqa Gabuza who’s enjoying a new lease of life in Pretoria put United ahead in the 41st minute with his third goal since joining the side. But United’s joy was shortlived with Gaston Sirino equalising immediately for the Brazilians.

The second leg fixtures will be played on Tuesday and Wednesday, September 17th and September 18th.

On Saturday,  The first semi-finals of the competition played in Polokwane, the match failed to produce goals.

Hosts Polokwane City failed to use their home ground advantage when they hosted Highlands Park at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium. After beating pre-tournament favourites Orlando Pirates away from home, Highlands Park fancied their chances against the home side. But City also managed to beat defending champions Cape Town City on the road to book themselves a place in the semis.

This was Rodney Ramagagela’s first match for Highlands Park against his former employers after a bitter partying of ways a few months ago.
