Anguish after owner loses four big cats to poisoning

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Deliberate poisoning is believed to be the cause of death of four big cats at the Jugamaro Predator Park near Vaalwater in Limpopo.

In a Facebook Live video, park owner Justin Fernandes walks viewers through the scene of the crime, showing the carcasses of the three lions and one tiger, pointing out chunks of meat in the big cats’ enclosures that he says had been laced with the poison, two-step.

In an emotional video, Fernandes recalls attempting CPR on his cats when the poisoning was discovered at 2am while they tried in vain to contact a vet. In the video, he strokes each of the cats while saying goodbye.

“This is where our nightmare started. Meat full of two step. They even had two step on a stick to try and feed the cats through the fence. So here is Tariq. Hello my boy, I love you so much. This is how in pain he was. That he was actually biting this fence so much because of the pain that this cat was in. My beautiful boy.”
