Reading Time: 2 minutes

ANC member of Parliament Sibusiso Radebe has been shot and killed during an alleged attempted hijacking incident on Tuesday night, in Roodepoort, west of Johannesburg.

Radebe is from the Elukwatini sub region of the ANC in Mpumalanga. He joined Parliament in 2009.

Radebe served on the Portfolio Committee on Higher Education and Training and the Portfolio Committee on Energy.

At the time of his death, he was serving on the Portfolio Committee on Transport. ANC’s regional spokesperson Sabelo Skhakhane says the party has lost a good leader.

“Yesterday before we slept, we received sad news that one of our member comrade Sibusiso Radebe, who was an ANC MP and from Gert Sibande region in particular Chief Albert Luthuli sub region at Elukwatini, has been shot and passed on, on the spot in Roodepoort in Gauteng (Tuesday) night. Although we now don’t have full details on what really happened..etc.”

Officials say 40-year-old Radebe and another man were sitting in a parked vehicle when two suspects approached them and opened fire.

Police spokesperson, Mathapelo Peters says, “Preliminary reports indicate that the deceased was with another person in a vehicle parked in Carbon Street, Lindhaven. The suspects then reportedly made off in a Ford Fiesta, dark in colour, with unknown registration. The motive is unknown, and the police investigation is underway.”
