ANC wins Northern Cape ward

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Northern Cape African National Congress (ANC) says it is satisfied with the results of a by-election held in the Siyathemba Municipal area, despite an 8% drop in votes for the party.

The provincial ANC received 45% of the votes with the Democratic Alliance receiving 29% of the vote, up by 4%.

“Although we dropped by a slight margin, we still see this as our people once again reaffirming (sic) their confidence in the ANC. The slight drop in our margin was because of our votes taken by an independent candidate. The independent candidate was from our ranks and as the ANC, we believe that we are able to unite the community in Siyathemba and we will be in talks with the candidate,” says ANC Provincial Spokesperson, Naledi Gaosekwe.
