The ANC in the Western Cape has welcomed the Public Protector’s finding against Premier Helen Zille’s controversial tweets on colonialism.

The ANC’s acting provincial leader Khaya Magaxa says they feel vindicated.

Magaxa lodged the complaint last year in his capacity as the leader of the opposition in the provincial legislature.

“Anyone who is still praising the past, that particular person does not deserve to be in any government, and therefore she deserve to apologise to us as the ANC, not only us as the opposition but to the entire South Africa especially in the Western Cape where we have an experience of colonialism destroying the existence of Khoisan people in this province,” says Magaxa.

Public Protector Advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane has found that Zille failed to act in good faith and in the best interest of good governance when she posted her colonialism tweets.
