Former President Jacob Zuma

Religious leaders in KwaZulu-Natal have once again thrown their weight behind former President Jacob Zuma ahead of his court appearance on Friday.

They held a media briefing on Monday along with other various organisations, including Andile Mngxitama‘s Black First Land First (BLF), in Durban.

One of the religious leaders, Bishop Timothy Ngcobo, warned the African National Congress (ANC) not to neglect its former President.

“We come as an intervention to say to the ruling party if you neglect former President Jacob Zuma in this fashion you are losing our vote. You see the road to two third majority it goes via Msholozi because we realise that he is the only one who can release the black person. He is the only one who can strongly support this thing of bringing back the land,” adds Ngcobo.

Mngxitama has also criticised the ANC for going ahead with its elective conference in KwaZulu-Natal on the same day Zuma is appearing in court.

“We are also aware the same ANC of white monopoly capital [president] Cyril Ramaphosa has made sure that there is an elective conference in the province at the same time as this court appearance. They want to remove the leadership of this province, the political leadership of this province which has supported [former] President Zuma, so that they can say President Zuma is isolated. We know these are all evil schemes,” says Mngxitama.
