ANC to use power of unity to undo damage: Pityana

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Save South Africa leader Sipho Pityana says the African National Congress (ANC) must now use the power of unity to undo the damage done by the country’s previous administration.

His comments come ahead of President and ANC leader Cyril Ramaphosa‘s first State of the Nation Address this evening.

Pityana says all officials, including politicians, must make sure that they live up to their constitutional mandate, which is to improve the lives of ordinary South Africans.

Pityana says it will be ideal to first get rid of all those who don’t seem to sing from the same hymn book of unity.

“We must remember that we have a constitutional dispensation that mandates us to lift people from a life of indignity. So corruption actually undermines our ability to do that. So we must unite behind those values.”

“And anybody who doesn’t want to be part of that must be left out of that unity project. So, I hope when there is this talk about unity, it is a unity that is about re-tracing our steps, recommitting ourselves as a country.”
